au revoir

‘I hate to have to leave you’ I said

‘Then stay!’ she replied

‘You know I can’t do that Marianne’ I told her as I looked into her teary eyes, ‘You and I both knew that this day would come’.

‘Well, this it. Goodbye then. See you again someday’ I said to Marianne as I wiped her tears.

‘Promise that you’ll never forget me’

‘You will always be a part of me’

The door closed with both of us on either side. When the train moved, I tried to look at her for as long as I could. As the scenery changed from platforms and empty rail tracks to the countryside, I realized that I might never see her again. Marianne, the stranger that I’ve met when I came to this strangeland

Goodbye Marianne.

Excuse-me for my sad attempt to drama writing.

Sounds that I will miss the most:

2. "Bong bong bong bong bong bong" the old church's clock tower's bell next to my house.

3. TF1's 8 o'clock news jingle

4. "Ding!" my oven's ding signaling that my pizza is done

I just realise France's lack of commercialism, the most interesting branch of capitalism for us mere consumers (this from someone who calls himself a socialist?). Everything has to be boring. A shopping complex in Malaysia is 10 times more exciting than one in France. Name me one centre commercial that can compete with say.... Subang Parade. None.

je suis venu te dire que je m'en vais

Penatnya menghangkut barang. Rasa pelik gila, lagi banyak aku angkut barang, lagi banyak aku rasa barang yang belum diangkut. Di manakah logika fenomena ini? Hari Rabu dah nak pulangkan kunci. Esoklah nak menghabiskan angkut barang, esoklah nak basuh rumah, esoklah nak packing, esoklah nak uruskan hantar barang balik Malaysia. Kalaulah ada mesin cahaya masa. Rasa nak je aku bukak laci kat meja Ajib pastu try masuk dalam tu.

Now the sad part has come. I need to call people up and say au revoir.

I just came to tell you that I'm going
And all your tears won't change a thing
As Verlaine said to the blowing wind
I just came to tell you that I'm going

You cry when you remember the good old days
You suffocate and turn pale, now that the time has come
To say goodbye forever
And I'm sorry to tell you that I'm going
I loved you, yes, but...

Fin!

I am now officially a graduate-in-waiting*. In waiting because I still need to do my internship. Speaking of internship, when I got the email from Petronas about the details of my internship, I was quite surprised to see that I'll be working 40 hours per week with only an hour to eat, rest and pray in the afternoon. It would be quite hard since I'm already accustomed to the French 35 hours working week with 2 hours break for lunch. Errk.

Anyways, back to the graduate-in-waiting thingy.... weeeeeeeeeeee. It's all over! I'm no longer a student! I'm no longer a student! I'm no longer a student! (sing to the tune of conga). Well, at least for now, because I'll need to do my ACCA after the intership. But for now, I'm feeling out of this world. The only thing that can ruin this moment is if the following conversation takes place:

Me: Yay, I've finished my degree
Someone: Big deal, I've finished mine last December
Me: (Pretending not to hear that) And now I'll sit for my ACCA papers. I'm exempted for 4 of with my degree
Someone: Well, I'm exempted for 8 with mine
Me: (Sheesh, what a party pooper) Oh yeah (getting annoyed), well, at least I can speak French!
Someone: Huh, moi aussi!

Now the closest that I've got to such a conversation was with Zeti last year. She graduated last winter and has more exemptions that I do. I really, really do hope that she doesn't speak French.

*Subject to any exam resit.
