Mind your language - miss that show

Walking to the metro station from my hostel is as deadly as... any activity that is deadly (can't think of one right now). I almost fell at least five times, and there was 2 guys in front of me who slipped while they were walking. Winter is deadly. Especially when you don't wear your winter boots.

English is the most widely spoken (not the most spoken, because that would be mandarin, but almost 85% of mandarin speakers live in China) language in the world. Which means that the language is prone to be misused or misinterprated by speakers who barely understands the meaning of certain words or phrases. And since these speakers normally make up the majority of any society, that society will adapt to their misinterpretation and adopt it into the local language. You don't really get what I mean do you?

In Malaysia for example. We misuse words like 'best' and 'terror'.

Best
Real meaning - superlative of good
Coffee is good, tea is better, but hot chocolate is the best
But in Malaysia - any positive adjective that is contribuable to a noun.
Kereta ini best. Cerita itu best. Kau memang best

Terror
Real meaning - fright
After the attack, people has been living in terror
But in Malaysia - to be good at something
Terrornya kau masak. Dia amat terror karate

Fortunately, the language authorities do not accept this as a part of the malay language enrichment phase as they usually do with words like apresiasi, komunikasi, bajet and nasional. But it's a different case in France. Local misinterpretations of english words have been accepted officially into the french language and you can actually find them everywhere. Some examples;

Shampooing
Real meaning - present continuous of the verb to shampoo
But in France - the shampoo itself
Vos cheveux seront sans pélicule avec ce shampooing
Your hair will be dandruff-less with this shampoo

Design
Real meaning - drawing or sketch
But in France - well conceived/designed (tech savvy)
Ce mixeur est très simple à utiliser, très design et très pratique.
This blender is simple to use, very beautifully designed and very practical.

Smoking
Real meaning - present continuous of the verb to smoke
Written on cigarette boxes - Smoking kills, smoking causes cancer, smoking destroys your skin.
But in France - Tuxedo
Il est très beau dans le smoking
He's very handsome in that tuxedo.

Those are the words that I can think of right now. But I'm sure there's more.

People say, with great powers, come great responsabilities.
I say, with good food cooked by oneself, come mountains of dishes to wash.
