TV realiti baru: Mencari Rumah
Last Friday me and Toh went to Lille, hoping to find a house. We took the morning train and arrived in Lille at 1400. We got seats that were not facing the direction of the train all the way from Strasbourg to Lille. I felt like vomiting when I got down in Lille. We went straight to Syazwan's house but of course he was not there. He's still busy stuffing himself up with kilos of Secret Recipe's cakes and roti jala (ahaha.. jangan marah, nanti kena jual). In fact the people who live in that house were all still in Malaysia. We waited for Farid. The only Malaysian Lillois that stayed. He had to do a training in July, so he decided to stay through August as well. Isk, mesti buhsan kan?
After settling down for a few minutes, we went out straight to the agence immobilier (find what does it mean yourself). I asked a few questions. One of them was 'How long does it take to visit the studio or appartment? An hour?' The girl behind the counter laughed 'You're not looking for a chateau. I mean how long can it be to look around a 20m square room?' We signed up and paid 125 euros each. But I'm quite pissed off by the agence, or more specifically the landlords. It's like you pay 125, they'll give you the contact numbers of the landlords and you fix yourself a rendez-vous with the landlord. Out of almost 80 studios/appartment/rooms, only 65 were within our budget. And out of 65 we only got to visit 2 of them. As for the others, it's either, they're sick, they're on holidays (it's still the summer holidays), the studios/appartments/rooms have already been rented, or they just don't feel like having a foreigner as a tenant.
By 1100 Saturday, we contacted every single number that we got but to no avail. Toh suggested that we go to Bruxelles. Again. Urghh. Like once is not enough. He didn't believed me and Farid when we told him that Bruxelles has a 72 hours day. One day spent there is like 3 days in the outside world. We took the noon train and bought the return tickets for the 2030 train. We finished visiting everything (including unecessary monuments) by 1600 (I was being kind there, because honestly I'd say by 1430). By 1700, not knowing what else to do, we took the earliest train possible. It was a Eurostar. The ones that go to London. Which means passport control. When i was at the belgian immigration, the guy told me that i couldn't exit France. I acted innocent and said 'Really? i didn't know that? Ahahaha (forced myself to laugh)'. Luckily he let me go. And there was no problem at the english immigration.
We went back to Colmar on Sunday morning. We took the 0900 train. Still no house. But since I spent more than 200 on this trip (including the agency's charge), I can not not say that this trip is worth it. So here goes, at least we moved some of our stuff (2 large bags full), we got to get acquainted with Farid, rerealise how boring Brussels is, ate KFC, and how jerk french landlords can be. So we decided to stay temporarily in the uni residence while looking for a house. My account in that agency is valid for 8 months and i paid a lot for it, so i'll bug them everyday until i find a good place to stay if i have to.
