oh, honestly...

I was asked by my Sociology teacher last week, as a foreigner, what are the differences that I can see between the french students and the malaysian students. I hesitated a bit to answer her question, but I knew that I couldn't not answer that question, seeing everyone's head turning towards me waiting for an answer, like a pack of vultures. My first respond was a diplomatic one. I simply said that, everything is about the same and as normal as in Malaysia. But I think she sensed that I was not being honest, probably because I was afraid that the other students might get back to me, she asked me again, for an honest answer.

And so I did give her my answers. I said that the students have less respect towards their teachers compared to the students in Malaysia, and that they're a bit hyperactive for people of their age (honestly, have you seen students playing geletek-geletek and laughing out loudly while the teacher is teaching in front? or have you seen students making pranks like hiding other peoples bags or pencil cases or sticking prank notes on the chair of the person in front? For heaven's sake, they're 20 years old!). But I do have to say that the students are more open-minded and are always ready to participate in classes, unlike Malaysians, who simply copy everything the teacher says even if he says that 1+1 is 11 (well, you get the idea). If they don't agree with anything the teacher says, they'll always voice out their opinions.

And just as I expected, they were all waiting for me outside the classroom right after that.

It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.
